Loss
& Bereavement
Many
times throughout our lifetime we lose those people or pets who are so dear
to us. Here at Natural Creations, we are no different than you. The grieving
process is different for all of us, but the one thing that always is to be
the same is that we have our loving memories. So when I lost my beloved
Zachary, I just couldn't see myself looking at a box of ashes and
pretending that that was him. That was very depressing to me. And Zachary
was anything but depressing, if you know what I mean. So that was when we
came up with the idea of our memorial cave candles. My belief was to take
my favorite picture of him and seal it into a stone. Then I made an
opening in the rock behind the picture where I could place either some of
his ashes, his collar, a favorite toy or just something that always would
remind me of him. This way whenever I looked at the picture, I knew that
what was behind the picture was part of Zachary. So in my mind the picture
became one with the personal item. So in essence
the picture became Zachary again. Then by adding the final touch of a
candle the piece was now complete. To me by lighting the candle, I feel
like I am lighting the way for Zachary to find me when that day arrives
that we will both be united again. The memorial cave candle really helped
me through my grieving.
It wasn't long after I had made this for Zachary, that I actually started
to feel happy whenever I thought about him or even saw a picture of him.
The Cave candle made me feel complete again.
The
memorial garden stone actually came about soon after the memorial cave
candle. Zachary loved the outdoors, being the Lab that he was. And I
really loved working in my flower beds when Zachary was out and about. Of
course I would always get the occasional help from him. So I thought that
it would only be appropriate that I create a Memorial Garden Stone to mark
the area where Zachary was so willing to help me dig. So we developed a
way to make the picture water tight and sealed it into the rock. I then
left an area so that I could inscribe something that would bring deep
meaning to our relationship. "My Best Friend". And I left a
small area for a votive candle to light his way. As you see in the
picture, we are still very happy together.
